Please check that it is running. Hi Doug, Check to make sure that your slave has been configured to be a NIS slave first before you issue the ypinit problem. You should be able to confirm this by trying to do a 'ypcat passwd' from the slave and see a list of the users in the /etc/passwd file on the master. Once you have got this, you should be able to issue the command: /usr/lib/ypinit -s master/ursatz. The error you have got appears that the slave is unable to form a NIS connction with the master server called ursatz based on the error message.
